Richard Hoy asked,

Not today. The math is clear. No ads, no money for content. No content, no
users. No users, no ads. Catch-22.com.

Banner-ad-sponsored content can work in a few circumstances, but it doesn't
work for everyone. In fact, it doesn't work for most of the people who are
trying it, and they're going off-line faster than you can say "inadequate
business plan."

But there are other revenue streams. If you can't make it on banner ads
alone, consider targeted full-page interactive interstitial ads -- more
income per ad, if you can find the advertisers. Consider pay-per-view and
subscriptions for premium content. Consider decreasing the frequency of
site updates, cutting personnel back to part time, lowering expectations.

And consider picking up your marbles and going home. This Web publishing
thing ain't for wimps.
