When I type in "Computers" and up pops a
"Computer Banner Ad" to reel me in.
.........That's okay.
When I type in "Computers" and find a
"Computer Text Link" to reel me in.
.........That's not okay.
Sound right to you?
I would disagree.
And, If I am able to create a page that follows all the rules
and it shows up #1 - #10 on page one
and people looking for "Computers" find my Text Link
and subsequently find my web site.........
I figure win,win,win -
win for the search engine having a "relevant link"
win for the user finding a 'relevant computer web site.'
win for me, targeting a person who is looking for 'computers'
and see's my site.
I am agressive and, I am NOT sleezy.
I am technology based and, I am NOT old school.
I hope all of you who read this stuff can sift through it
okay.
metaphorically re: the above "agressive = sleezy" theory
would be like saying:
"I'm a cheater and a sleez-bag because I jam up the middle
(elbow my opponent) on a move to score 2 points in
basketball. " (being agressive).
Heck yes we are agressive in marketing and becoming noticed
or located within a search engine! And we're gowing to drive
it right up the middle to score!!
People..... is there something wrong with being agressive in
marketing? and is there something wrong with being agressive
in your search engine optimization? I don't think so -
Simply pay attention to the rules and guidelines and do not
decieve the engine or users.
What WOULD BE considered as 'sleezy'.... is using "Pamela
Anderson" and her good name, in source code to drive a lot
of traffic (because she is popular) to your "Computer"
related site. Now THAT is sleezy.

Yes, it is okay to drive keyword traffic with banners. No,
it is not okay to drive keyword traffic with source code
text links.
I guess this is 'politically correct' for some of you?
Personally, I think it's garbage and it reminds me of
politics in general.
Listen:
The old paradigm going back to 1995-96 where a few
techno-nerds drove tons of "Adult" related source code
keyword traffic to "Shopping web sites" IS OVER. Keyword
loading IS OVER. Invisible text IS OVER.
If you can drive traffic (targeted by keyword), whether
source code text links or banners - you better 'make hay
while the sun is shinning. '
Waste of time?
or
No time to waste?
You make the call.
Molly, I hope you can take this as an attack on your "theory
or opinion" NOT you personally. I'm sure you are a very
intelligent and professional online marketer. I simply
disagree with some of your theory re: optimization. And,
you're not the only one I disagree with.
All the best to you, this is NOT about "right or wrong,"
it's about being different and having a different opinion.
Peace to all of you and have a great time online!
best regards,
paul
