Instead of worrying sooo much about getting new visitors to
our sites and then getting advertising dollars - why not
concentrate on strategically courting and keeping current
customers. We can then sell various products from our sites
to our current customers and get revenue there. The model of
tons of content to get customers to get advertisers is
great, but if we are getting so many advertisers whey not
sell them something - direct, just like Dell does. This
doesn't mean we have to sell our own material, but we could
even join a few affiliate programs and leverage some money
that way (Amazon, iPrint, WSj, etc).

It's easier and cheaper to sell to a current customer than
to a new customer. I have a list of several hundred that
receive Small Business Technology Report, true, it would be
nice to have tons of new customers, but at the moment I'm
happy with my current subscribers who I know well, who know
me and like my services.

Of course this model will not work for everyone. Some sites
need tons of new visitors, but some of us can do very well
in keeping our exisiting WEB users happy. Incidently, I'm
increasingly getting a lot of word of mouth (word of email
;) referals from my exisiting customers. Their referalls to
friends is worth much more than what I could do with a quick
banner ad or something.

Yes, I do use Link Exchange and am considering other
advertising methods but nothing can beat my current WEB
users/customers/clients/subscribers, etc....
