Man, they really have THAT backwards! For us, e-commerce is
our bread-and-butter, paying more than 85% of our revenue.
Advertising, especially those banner ads that everyone
ignores, pays less than 10% -- barely enough to cover the
ISP and phone bills, much less the salary of a professional.

I had an interesting Web experience this week. I went to a
site, <>, looking for their
donation page, which uses a new e-commerce system we're
considering at Mind's Eye Fiction. I looked all over that
durned site, clicking on every link, and I could not find
the link to the donation page. I knew it was there -- the
e-commerce folks told me about it. But I couldn't find it
after ten minutes of browsing. Then I went back to their
home page and looked one more time. There it was -- right at
the top.

They made it look like a banner ad, and my eyes had skipped
right over it! Even when I was looking for the damned thing,
I couldn't find it.

This points out the futility of banner ads. You -- the one
reading this. You're a banner ad guru, aren't you? Can you
name the products from the last three banner ads you saw?
No? I thought not.

"Online Advertising Is Not Enough" is correct -- if you're
still relying on banner ads for your only revenue stream.
The numbers just don't work.

Come see our alternative: <>.
Full-page interstitial ads which can't be ignored.
