I would like to pose a question regarding the point about
slowing down load time in pages. How do you define the
"load time"?
Does that mean:
1) The amount of time it takes for the HTML document to be
displayed on the browser, or
2) does it mean the amount of time it takes for ALL of the
graphics to load?
If the first one is your definition, then you are incorrect.
Banner exchanges do not decrease the load time of your
pages because if they properly have the width/height tags in
place, your web page will be displayed before the banner
even begins to load. By the way, if it does not have the
width/height tags, I would question the quality/validity of
that banner exchange.
If the second one is your definition, then you are correct
in saying that an extra banner does slow down the loading of
the complete page--graphics and all by a small amount.
I think the first definition is a more useful way of
defining it however, because that should be the amount of
time it takes for the user to receive what he's looking
for--the content of that page. If your web page relies on
graphics to deliver it's message (unless of course if you're
selling images or something where the graphic is the
content), then it has been highly suggested that you
reconsider your web page design in every web design
commentary I have ever seen.
Therefore, if you accept my first proposal for web page load
time, then banner exchanges do not slow down the loading of
a page.
Also, however, there are now other options for banner size
in banner exchanges. Recently there have been several
button exchanges appear (we offer the standard 88x31 size),
and FYI, we plan to support all the CASIE standard sizes as
it becomes feasible to do so.
