This is exactly what I had in mind when I developed my
company's concept -- coordinating co-op PRINT advertising
(http://www.webadvantage.net/ad.htm) to promote web site
urls-- except I was particularly focused on web site
entrepreneurs who don't have the large advertising budgets
of the Fortune 500 companies. If getting their web site url
in the hands of their target audience is the key to getting
people to their site, this is one option these businesses
can explore. Because our large display ads are placed in
targeted media according to theme and/or advertiser's goal
audience, they can reduce the clutter and competition of the
Web. And since the ads provide a handful of helpful urls,
they're less cumbersome and more timely than a printed
directory.

I don't profess to preach that traditional advertising is
the only way to get a web site visibility and traffic. But
a combination of several means, particularly lower- or
shared-cost ones can certainly give a web site better
exposure than if one relied soley on the Web.
