In a recent conversation with a business associate, he
mentioned a recent proposal his design firm was making to a
software company to sponsor his web site. The proposal
stated that Design Firm X would provide 300,000 impressions
(from a new site) and specific content that was in effect a
tutorial on the use of the Sponsor company's software. In
exchange, the Software company would hand over a check for
five figures. At least update, Design Firm X was close to
signing the contract with the Software company (though I
don't know if it happened).
I have learned a lot about marketing and online advertising
over the past year, but have not been exposed to this form
of raising capital. Whether or not the proposal was
accepted, it is still noteworthy that my associate's web
site was considered for sponsorship by the larger company.
Questions come from this:
1. How frequent/infrequent are sponsorships?
2. What information is useful to provide to potential site
sponsors?
3. Coming from the field of research grant writing for
medical purposes, I know that grants to funding agencies
require such information as projection sheets and detailed
budgets for the proposed money. Is this true for a
sponsorship proposal?
The root of my inquiry is really -- is this a realistic way
for my site to obtain capital?
Thank you in advance for any input.
