Re: the industry *hush* over banner caching
Someone asked me about this a few months ago. I did a
little test using .ASP
We had our image (250K, to be sure we could see if it was
loading fresh or from a cache), called "image.gif". The
first time it loaded, after that it cached.
Then we wrote a little .ASP snippet to insert the date and
time, so the image was then
img src="http://whatever.com/image1.gif?11:12:29"
The 11:12:29 was generated by ASP & changed everytime the
page was reloaded. As a result, every time the page was
loaded, the image was reloaded - no caching.
Also, isn't there a META tag to cause the page to expire on
its first load, so the page itself (with the above static
link) would have to be reloaded each time (resulting in the
change to the link)?
I don't know if that would resolve this exact problem.
Please let me know if it helps.
