As we all know, the "free content through advertising"
concept is spreading fast. The software industry is no
exception. Software provides advertisers with a captive and
loyal audience. Advertising in software can be in front of
the user for much longer than your average advertisement on
a web site. For example, we serve banners on a 90 second
rotation, an excellent opportunity for branding as well as
plenty of time for response.
In our experience, making software completely free through
the use of advertising actually increases both usage and
revenue. It also provides the developers with the ability
to communicate with their users (updates, surveys, etc.).
It is actually a win-win-win situation for the user,
advertisers, and developers.
We, Aureate Media, have been providing software developers
with the ability to insert banner advertising into their
software for over a year. We currently deliver over 20
million ad impressions per month to software applications on
our network. While we do not currently deliver advertising
to games, we do deliver ads to a diverse group of software
products (FTP, Chat, Music, etc.).
