Alexa isn't the only one doing such things. Various other
programs, especially such things as free ISP and
acceleration software are doing similar things.
Also, I believe Alexa just runs a 234x60 and an 88x31
button--so it's not too bad. Not as bad as some other custom
browsers.
I did run with Alexa once a year or two ago. I basically
ignored it completely which is why I got rid of it.
