I have been using Alexa for almost a year now, and have no
complaints with the service or their advertising model.
Alexa provides a service to users, which I myself find
invaluable, and in exchange they have an advertising space
on the tool bar. Alexa has provided valuable contact
information on sites to me and also, their list of related
links works as an excellent research tool(many times
replacing my use of search engines). I don't see anyway
that it interferes with the content of a site. Yes, it can
allow Barnes and Noble to advertise in its bar when Amazon
comes up(which I think is a stroke of genious), but I don't
see Alexa detracting from the content of any webpage.
Before making blanked statements about what Alexa is and is
not, why not go to their webpage and read a little bit more
about their company. You'll find it very interesting to
know that Alexa is also creating an archive of the web,
which they recently donated to the Library of Congress.
