Creepy, maybe, but not "bad." The Alexa application is a
stand-alone, small movable window. A tiny ad is included in
its frame, which can be targeted to the content of the page
being viewed--or anything else. So it doesn't actually serve
an ad "onto" the page. Alexa launches automatically when I
launch my browser, but I can turn it off and on easily.
The payback for the ad is information about the site: how
many times visited, the 2 or 3 sites Alexa users visited
afterwards, and, what makes it very useful for me as a
journalist, who the site is registered to *with the phone
number*. I love this feature since <gratuitous kvetch> so
many of you people don't put your contact information on the
front page or anywhere else I can find it quickly and easily
</kvetch>.
