At the risk of sounding too self-serving, at the Ottawa
Citizen Online http://www.ottawacitizen.com/ , where we have
served over a million ads in past year, we have had no
negative feedback from our users on banner ads. We did use
a pop-up once and did get some but it was surprisingly
limited in number. We have also had advertisers who have
gained some good results, especially in very targeted
sections (real estate for example).

I'll return to what I said in a recent post ...targeting, a
compelling offer, a loyal user base, and some thinking on
the part of the advertiser means a better chance at results
and more relevance to users. I do agree though with many
others on this list that online ads are only one part of the
mix and may not work for every advertiser.
