I feel qualified to answer this question, as in the small
business world this is a common problem. Inc Mag, Small
Busines Computing and Communiations, Entrepreneur Mag and
others have all had articles on this issue. Here are some
tips that may help:

1.What kind of relationship do you (or one of your staff)
have with them. If you can meet with them personally, the
person who writes and signs the check and establish a one on
one raport - I bet you'll get better results

2. Offer incentives for faster payment - x% off, extra adv,
or something like this

3. Offer them the "ease" of direct payment - from their
checking account or credit card to your bank - not to hard
to do

4. If you can, cut off clients that don't pay in time. If
they don't pay properly, 3 times, let them know it's to
expensive for your to do business with them. And you welcome
future ad placements
