Wired, IBM & Vespa need to get a clue

Apparently, Wired News, IBM and Vespa got together recently
and decided if they could really upset their user base - and
I think they will succeed if this morning's 140K banner ad
is any indication.

To recap:

IBM e-business banner ad - 140K download!

No Wired News content, that's right no content - at least
not until you play the ad or click exit, but in either case
it's still a 140K download!

About the only thing Vespa got right was having their site
so poorly navigable that someone like me gives up looking
for a place to complain.

Here's the real troubling thought. I probably never would
buy a Vespa so no harm to them. IBM has never impressed me
as 'net savvy, so no risk in future losses from them. An
finally Wired's content is generally pretty good so I
probably won't dump them as my default homepage. But all
this activity will certainly fuel the fires of banner ad
suppression programs - hmmm something about unintended
consequences, perhaps all three will suffer an economic
penalty...
