Whenever I hear someone say, "the web is just a place for
advertising, and most sites are filled with annoying
flashing banners," I always look for some defense. This
clip just flew past my inbox, courtesy of Inquisit.

COMMERCIAL CLUTTER WORSENS

A new survey indicates that the number of ads on prime-time
television is climbing.

Mediacom, a New York-based ad-buying company, says an
average hour contained 15 minutes and 44 seconds of
advertising last November. That's 25 seconds more than
reported in the same period one year earlier.

ABC topped the over-the-air network list, with 16 minutes,
27 seconds of commercials per hour.

In cable, E! Entertainment Television, MTV and the Turner
Broadcasting Network were among the most highly saturated
cable channels with just over 18 minutes of ad time an hour.

So, if television programming is one-quarter advertising,
what is the fraction of web ads to content?
