I actually find that Goto search returns tend to be more
relevant than most other search engines. The "put your
money where your mouth is" aspect clears out a fair amount
of the deadwood. There is, I agree, some listings that
shouldn't be on certain keywords, but to their credit, Goto
has gotten a lot tougher about this (as I found out when I
wanted the "yahoo" keyword for my yahoo tips page).

My problems with Altavista's plan are (1) if they don't
clearly distinguish the paid listings, like Goto does, it's
deceptive and (2) I think their minimum bid price of .25 for
a clickthrough is outrageously high for most keywords.
