My instinct is that your question is MUCH more complicated
than you realize. Here are some of the important issues you
need to analize.
1. What kind of sites are your target market as affiliates?
Are they the kind of sites attracted to either Linkshare or
Be Bree?
2. Do you want your program associated with the types of
programs they represent?
3. Is their contract reasonable, and does it give you the
flexibility you need if you aren't satisfied with their
results?
4. How high profile is your site? Do you need their
exposure to get to your potential affiliates, or can you do
it alone?
5. Are you capable of financing the set-up and maintenance
of your own tracking system?
There are other questions, but this should give you the
basic idea. I would be happy to help you if you want to
delve deeper into the ins and outs.
If you decide you want to use a third party to run your
program, then check out your options. I have no experience
with Be Free, but my experience with Linkshare has caused me
to avoid them at all cost. I attempted to use their system
and found it unbelievably convoluted. I sent them an email
on April 8th asking for help. It is now April 21st and I
still have received no response from them. Great customer
service, wouldn't you say?
I have more choices for you to consider at my site. Go to
http://www.DomainNameAdvisor.com/books.htm for great
information on setting up affiliate programs, and then go to
http://www.DomainNameAdvisor.com/tools.htm for other more
third party sources.
I hope this helps. Thanks to all the great contributors to
this letter.
