Re: Ads down

Leo,

If you had $30,000 dollars, and needed to advertise and
wanted to reach small businesses.

What would you do with it?

I would do two things (not including PR and etc)

1. Advertise in Inc. Mag and other small biz pubs

2. Take several thousand of that and do a direct email
(including adv in ezines) to small businesses.

DARE - DIGRESSION:

Give me a client that has a great product and that I
UNDERSTAND and shape some nice, Nick Usborne type text to
your audience, I'll blow away any banner campaign. If some
big vendor wants to host a "bet" I'm game. Leo you get a
vendor to give you $10,000 for banner ads, I'll get a vendor
to give me $10,000 for a non banner ad campaign (same
product, but let's use different URLS or something to track
it) and I probably will win. IF I lose then....If you
lose...then.....who knows...any ideas. The focus must be
small businesses, that's the market I know ;) I not, I'd
still be game though.

Any vendor seeing this got $20,000 to give!

END DIGRESSION

3. I must admit, I don't claim to be an expert in online
adv, but I do read a lot, talk alot and etc so I'm familiar
with the 'net economy very much. You may have an edge as you
DO ads, and etc, but common sense tells me banners are dead.
They may work, they obviously work with you - but the big
muckity, muck is email, email, email and sponsoring. Not one
banner ad hitting every x amount of people.

I can recall much better the ads I've seen in Clickz, OA,
Channel 7, CNet, ICONCAST, Onlineinsider, etc ezines than
their WEB sites. Now does this mean, everyone on their
sites, ignores banner ads, of course not, but I bet they'd
get a higher rate of response from the ezine.

Listen, check out ww.yoyo.com - Yoyodyne, this is where it's
at or Netcreations? something like that...

Even in my own small, niched ezine, I have no ads, but I
can tell that people respond to my textual articles than
banner "ads" of sorts on my site.
