No one launches a "new portal"

I have just read my sixth news article about another "new
portal" about to launch. This time it's Starbucks coffee,
who will be launching a "new portal" full of coffee
information. Can we get one thing straight -- NO ONE
LAUNCHES A NEW PORTAL! While it may be possible to launch a
very popular Web site, that quickly achieves portal status,
you can no more launch a new portal than you can give birth
to a grown adult.

Any advertising manager with an ounce of intelligence will
should view this deception as it really is -- a small Web
site charging portal rates. And while I give all these
small Web sites credit for trying to cash in on the portal
craze, their actions only serve to dilute the credibility of
all the true portals and further confuse the emerging online
media buying community. So the next time you hear from one
of these so called "new portals" remember this -- a small
portal is nothing more than a portolet.
