Newspaper Refuses to run URL in local ads
There's a local situation here that may be of interest to
others - and I'd like to know if anybody has run into
something similar elsewhere.
The local newspaper, the biggest circulation in a million
person market place, will not include URLs in local print
advertising. Apparently the reason is because the newspaper
itself currently does not have a web site (which doesn't
make much sense but is a handy stock sales answer) and will
accept URLs when they go online.
The greater likelihood is that clients with web sites will
buy less print space and will customize the ad to push the
reader to the web site if given that option. In fact, one
of our clients has cut their print advertising space for the
year to 1/3, doing just that.
Question: Does anyone know of other major newspapers that do
not include local URLs?
