I have embedded HTML-based ads into email using various HTML
tags & javascript and it works great when the client
software supports HTML tagged email. Of course, the problem
is that the user's email client must support HTML tags, so
you will need to experiment.
The use of HTML gives you much more control over the email's
display/layout and the user's experience. For instance, you
can adjust and control background colors, font sizes, embed
gif ani's, embed javascript, etc.
Also, be aware that some user's prefer not to receive
HTML-tagged email for a variety of reasons, so offer two
options.
