Hello,

ROB FISHER WROTE:

TO WHICH THOM FORBES REPLIED:

I have to completely disagree here. It's not spam,
although I will agree that it is slightly deceptive. Would
it work?

Take, for example, the site FreeShop. FreeShop buys ads,
promotes their site, etc. and sells out space to per-lead
companies. It's not a direct comparison to what was
originally brought up, but close enough. The first time I
came upon this site, over two years ago, I thought "yech,
all it is is ads." I didn't visit the ads, I just left and
found somewhere else to go that actually had content.

Yes, you might get a lot of traffic, yes you might be
able to sell those spots, but I doubt the advertisers would
really be getting what they wanted -- only the bottom of the
barrel won't realize the site for what it is, just a bunch
of junk.
