Re: Ad-blocking Software

Seth Ruffer wondered how Ad-blocking software would affect
smaller sites depending on ad revenue. We at the All-Internet
Shopping Directory stopped selling banners earlier this year
because of declining clickthrough rates. We've always gotten
most of our income from our text ads, anyway, so smaller sites
like ours (we average about 100,000 pageviews monthly) might
also consider shifting to text-based ads in some fashion.
This would sidestep banner blocking software.

Just as a point of information: I ran a bunch of different
affiliate programs for a while, using both banners (11,170
impressions) and text ads (135,729 impressions) for the same
merchants. Results sure confirm LinkShare's stats:

the banners I ran pulled an average 1.14% CTR, while text ads
pulled 5.55%.

Hope this helps,

Tom Brown
