I've encountered this before with jokes alone amounting to
3,000 kB on my personal account.
Since I'm presently working with ThatWeb, our web-based
email access service (http://www.thatweb.com) permits me to
delete messages selectively without the need to download all
the messages first.
I hope this helps.... although I admit I'm guilty of
promoting my own product here.
