I just read your mail on text-links vs. banner ads. I
completely agree with you.
Text-based ads will be one future of online advertising. You
cant block them out and you may camouflage them
meticulously implying them in profesionally written
articles. The way how you mix up your content with text ads
will decide on whether customers will accept your website or
not.
BUT: Apart from text-based ads we shouldnt forget that
banner ads defintively are THE branding tool. They really
may only work for that reason and should also be paid by
advertisers for that reason. In my opinion its even
astounding that theres a CTR at all!
So publishers could be paid an average 36 USD CPM and if
theres some click-through occuring, we (the publishers) get
some 0.* USD on top of the CPM!
How about that? Theres no unfairness in this. Advertisers
pay for branding using banners and publishers get some extra
money if theres some click-through.
This means a combination of todays banner advertising and
affiliate systems.
Any thoughts?
Now for something different: Affiliate Programs here in
Germany just get off the ground. Planning a german travel
portal Im desperately in need of some (sort of) reliable
numbers concerning the revenues from affiliate programs .
Toms numbers were already interesting (135729 Impressions
on text links, 11170 Banner Impressions), but for having a
sound basis for calculating future revenue I need to know
how many P.I. were needed for producing these ad impressions
and how much money was generated from these ad impressions
in the end. Sure that the contents must be highly
appropriate to text ads and vice versa.
I appreciate any support.
