I'm an Italian engineering student, and I follow this (very
good, I must say) list to learn the basics of Internet
Advertising. Here's a cut&paste from the help of Outlook
Express (I have it installed at school with no bandwidth
issue, but I'm pretty confident this should solve the
problem for low bandwidths too):

On the Tools menu, click Accounts. Click the mail server,
and then click Properties. On the Advanced tab, drag the
slider bar in the Server area to the right.

In fact, I use a slow 33.6Kbit modem at home and I've
downloaded fat 1.5MB messages (from some * now DEAD* friend
:) with just the annoyance of the waiting time (and phone
call bills).

Just a small advice: if you need a flexible mail client, try
_Pegasus Mail_ (to which I'm in no way related, other than
by being a happy user) at http://www.pegasus.usa.com/ It's
very good, very flexible (with a HUGE bunch of features,
among which also the fabled _selective mail
download/delete_) and FREE (if you want to support it you
can buy printed manuals).

I hope this solves the problem.
