ERIC PICKUP WROTE:
>I think that you'll find Perl scripts lose reliability at
>40,000 impressions per day
Come now, no one computer language is any more or less
reliable than any others. If a specific ad server
implementation can't scale past 40K impressions/day that's
the fault of the programmer or their design, not the
language itself. We ran over 400K impressions a day from our
ad software, which was written in Perl and used FastCGI,
with very low cpu impact. (The site has since been purchased
by a portal, and ads are handled by them now.)
Granted, to my knowledge none of the low-end Perl ad
software uses FastCGI (or mod_perl), so you'd need a lot of
horsepower to handle hundreds of thousands of CGI excutions
per day. But still, that's the fault of their design, not
the language.
