Search Engine Submissions - The final word?

Hi George,

As you can see From: Jesse Berst's AnchorDesk -- SEARCH
STINKS! BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO TAKE IT ANYMORE
http://www.anchordesk.com/a/ad1tltqp/3594 searchers are
fed-up with the search engines lack of ability to perform
a decent FIND.

After being involved with search engines since 1995 I can
tell you from experience, manual submission services are
THE ONLY WAY to deal with an already "hopeless" situation.
The amount of hype and rhetoric on this subject is
terrible and subsequently people's expectations are
unrealistic.

Here are a list of some marketing leader lines I read all
the time: "Submit your site to 400 search engines and drive
traffic to your site, only $9.95"20 "Be # 1 guaranteed
and generate huge traffic to your web site, only $49.95
submit to 1,600 engines" "Guaranteed Top 20 for only $19.95"
NOTE: Professional manual submission by hand remains the
only quantifiable, measurable, and accountable method of
submitting quality and sensitive businesses information
into an engine or directory database.

Here is my experience:
# 1 Current automated submissions are like throwing business
    cards out of an airplane.
# 2 People want to believe what they read.20
# 3 Being number 1cis not what it has been hyped-up to be.
# 4 There is a point of diminishing return.
# 5 There is a right and wrong way to do your Meta Tags.
# 6 Meta Tags are over-rated.

NOTE: Someone must go and visit each of the top 20 search
engines and directories every month to verify your URL is
in fact listed in their database.

Some facts and opinion: Search engines are machines, they
read text and by my measure of human intelligence they can
be stupid, unreliable and inconsistent. Plus, their goals
do not include you being found or relevant. However;
Maintaining your presence & professional representation on
the 20 most important engines directories is very
important.

# 1 Engine directory listings are considered a
"pre-marketing activity" not an "ad campaign."
# 2 Studies have shown 80% of all web site traffic is
    generated through the search engines.
# 3 Submitting and verifying properly to the search engines
is a very tricky and time consuming process.

If you have any questions about automated submissions being
a waste of money, let92s take one topic, 91Category
selection.92 <be advised, there are another few dozen
topics, too much for this email> Think about it and ask
yourself this question85..let92s say you fill out a form
for an automated service form "Category is Wedding Services"
however; the directory being submitted to, provides no
category for Wedding Services. An automated computer
submission software is NOT going to make an intelligent
human decision re: an alternate category selection
appropriate for this specific directory. And what about
truncating descriptions or other information. When an
automated form takes a 20 word description but the
directory only wants a 15 word description guess what.
Your description is truncated <cut-off> at the 16th word.
Is that good professional representation?

I recently hired a third party take a look at this industry
and here is what he said "as part of my research for your
project, I tested this service <not to be disclosed>, and
NOTHING has shown up so far. And what about these awards
they claim to have received. I think anybody who hooks up
with these services learns the hard way -- there are some
things that absolutely require the human touch."

There you have it!

Best regards,

Paul J. Bruemmer
