Yes, advertising within video games is done. The first time
I ever heard of Red Bull, was by wathcing a friend play a
Sony Playstation game (game name eludes me at the moment).
It was some future-age racing game, and one of the
billboards you raced by was an ad for Red Bull.

I'm sure other game developers, well at least their
accountants, are more than willing to include your ad within
the confines of the game, especially in games where the ad
fits in with the surroundings of the game.

But in your particular case, I think you would be reaching a
lot of young people that your ad would be wasted on. There
are much better niche opportunities to help you target
software developers. I don't think online versions of Doom
are skewed toward sr. software developers.
