Sponsorship metrics?

i am trying to deepen my understanding of the sponsorship
side of the business. how are sponsorship deals
constructed? are they priced against traffic/page view
guarantees? what sort of pricing premium is given to an
advertiser so they can "own" the category? are back end
kickers, such as clickthru spiffs and/or transactional
splits, used frequently? if so, how much is it per click?
