Let me take a stab at this. Excluding spam lists, that
leaves "opt-in" lists: people who have subscribed to a
particular newsletter or information service. I really
doubt any of these companies would *sell* their lists, for 2
reasons: 1) the list is their livelihood; and 2) the opt-in
recipients "opted" for a specific vehicle - if they begin
receiving new mailings from a 3rd party, I'm sure many would
consider them "unsolicited." (i.e. spam)
Btw, I've been receiving a color (html) newsletter (from a
list I apparantly "opted into") called "Internet Day." It
actually looked pretty good, like an html page in my
mailbox. They claim to send out 150,000 copies a day. I
know they accept article submissions and sell space too.
