Hi,
I run a very small business on the side that develops
software products for a nice system, OS/2 Warp. The company
operates primarily from my home in California, where our
secure server is located via a DSL line. We accept online
orders and operate exclusively online. Due to my day job
that's the only way to do it. I have one associate who is in
Texas and helps with development ; he also has a full time
job and works via the Internet.
The problem we are facing is to reach enough customers.
There is no longer any print OS/2 publication that we could
advertise in. The only announcement medium we have are the
newsgroups and some OS/2 mailing lists. Every time we make
announcements there, we get a few sales, but it dries up
very quickly. We need something that can sustain our sales.
The banner networks don't seem to be a good solution : we
don't want to pay for thousands of hits to Windows, Mac or
Unix users who would never purchase our OS/2 software.
The only one that seems to have an option to target the
advertising based on the browser (eg. Netscape for OS/2,
which would ensure the ad viewers are exclusively OS/2
users) is Doubleclick. I have contacted them and they want a
$15 CPM, which is fine ... Except they also want a minimum
of $2500/month and a 3-month commitment for trying them ! We
wouldn't want to spend more than a couple hundred dollars at
this point for a trial of an advertisement.
Can anyone on this list suggest a method of advertising
online that would allow us to target OS/2 users ?
Thanks.
