i would try to answer this query with my limited exposure to
the net.As of today, surfers all over the web have got so
used to rectangular popup banners of geocities, tripod and
other homepage services. which are 468X60 pixels. And the
genral reaction is to close that pop up box as soon as it
opens.Therefore i am strongly against rectangular popup
ads.The option here is to change sizes say square, or long
etc which is not common.Another good option is to take the
permission of the surfer( would u like to know of some
exciting offers?)and use a java popup which would refresh
ads... i suppose ticker can also act as a good medium of
advertising,if used smartly which need not have a popup but
can run on the site itself.

i would like to have some more discussion on this topic
