Hi Judy,
In the sub-$400 market I think you'll find most of the
software comes from small firms or even one person
enterprises. A good starting point would be
http://cgi.resourceindex.com/Programs_and_Scripts/Perl/Adver
tisements/. Here you can find several dozen free and
inexpensive scripts. You'll probably need to handle most of
your own tech support -- including installation and
maintenance of the script. Of course you can also
sub-contract for these services too. If you want to go this
route the CGI Resource Index maintains a list of installers
and programmers at
http://cgi.resourceindex.com/Programmers/. Many scripts can
be installed for as little as $50.
Just this past Monday I installed WebAdverts 2.02 for one of
my web sites -- http://www.USRowing.com. I'm no techie and
this was only the third CGI I've installed -- but I made it.
The instructions were not quite as idiot proof as the other
scripts I've installed, but the WebAdverts web site has a
message board that proved useful. A quick search and I found
the answers to my questions -- posed by someone else about
three weeks earlier. I must confess I have not yet paid the
$50 registration fee, but fully intend to do so.
The documentation indicates WebAdverts should be able to
handle up to 100,000 impressions per day, depending on
server performance. Since I've only been running the script
for about 72 hours now, I don't have much to report -- other
than it works! I'm serving about 500 impressions per day. It
provides solid reporting and ad management capabilities.
I've managed to configure it to serve ads of different sizes
-- 125x125, 120x60, etc. WebAdverts also allows advertisers
to track their performance in real-time. To see the
advertiser reporting visit
