For an example of a non-profit (.org) go to Africa News
Service Online at http://www.africanews.org. We here at
Nando Media entered into a partnership with them several
years ago. We helped design and build the site. We also
host it and provide technical support. Advertising revenue
is split at a pre-determined rate. Nando Media is a for
profit organization and Africa News Service is a non-profit.
Another example is NPR. They call their advertisers
"underwriters". GreaterGood.com has a click through button
on the NPR main page today. A little deeper into the NPR
site is a banner for e-loan with a line of text above the ad
saying "Underwritten by".
I don't think you will have any ethical problems from using
paid advertising to support your operation.
Hope this helps.
