This is commercial, and it's > unsolicited, and it's email. For me, the big difference > is that if a human has taken the time to track you down > and write to you personally, it's "legitimate > unsolicited commercial e-mail". As an online ad salesperson (soon to be working with Cybereps after a well deserved sabbatical) I never thought that an e-mail I sent to a media buyer informing them about my site's appropriateness for their client as spam.....I do take the time to research their clients and believe I have an audience that would make sense (as best I can without talking to someone) before I send anything. However, I have only done this when efforts to reach people via telephone fail....(so many people seem to let their voice mail answer all calls making it impossible to learn specifics of their needs. And if you are not representing one of the "top ten" sites they may not be aware of your site's value.) I get dozens of true SPAM in my personal and work accounts I understand the frustration...but do believe the "bad guys" out there could stifle the sales process if legislation were passed prohibiting any "pre-approved" e-mail. I am curious to hear what the media folks (or site owners for that matter) out there think about receiving a well written, and informative e-mail about a site's demo, rates etc. that they did not specifically ask for first. It seems to me that receiving an e-mail instead of a phone call would be so much easier for the recipient.....opinions? Kim O'Connor ~~~~~~~~~~~ Received on Tue Nov 09 1999 - 20:21:23 CST
