Pay for placement services

We've been using Goto and buying placement among
various keywords for a little over 2 weeks. The
results: 360 clicks at an average $1.75 per click.
Out of those 320 visitors 23 (6.4%) have taken some
"action" at our site either signing up for a
newsletter, becoming an affiliate, or taking advantage
of our FREE TRIAL offer. We're pleased with the
results...with Goto, good keyword buys and a
prequalifying message this seems like a very focused
way of getting qualified traffic and leads. I'm sure
our results would be even more encouraging if our site
didn't try very hard to confuse them sometimes...:).
And we're working on that.

Is anyone aware of any buzz about another major
directory and/or search engine entering into this
playing field? I picked up the rumor on another news
group but haven't been able to substantiate it. The
two "similar" services I did find www.searchhound.com
and www.rocketlinks.com don't seem to have much play
from surfers and neither has yet to respond to queries
about their traffic volume or promotional strategies.
