I'll comment on this SPAM thread then drop out, as it's
a circular discussion that will be resolved only by
people finding email to be less valuable the more its
abused. I wish Tom Kirshman's view and his six rules
of SPAM were all there was to it - and in many cases
they are as it applies to singular emails sent to
people who, by posting their addresses on websites for
example, have in effect agreed to be contacted. And
don't get me wrong, the last thing I want to be is a
stick in the mud, as I want to see this whole email
thing take off as much as the next person. But, in
order for that to happen OVER THE LONG TERM, we must
all really take care who we send email to and why - and
follow the fairly strict rules of 'opt-in'.

Otherwise, hey, I might have to look for another line
of work.
