Affiliate programs and link popularity

Hi all,

A lot of search engines are using link popularity as
one of the factors in ranking web sites. Does anyone
know if affiliates sites are counted in this figure?
We are just starting an affiliate program now (I know
we are way behind the 8-ball on this, but it took some
time to convince my boss that people where *not* lined
up to give his fantastic product free advertising on
their sites), but I am wondering how far behind we
really are.
