In response to Havah Hope's question about the cost of
using BeFree to start an affiliate program for her 3
sites, each of which sell one line of shoes, that's a
very expensive way to go unless you are a large and
well financed marketer.
As a consultant to merchants starting affiliate
programs, IMHO I would look at another option for
someone in her position. The solution I would recommend
is Commission Junction at
http://affiliateadvisor.cj.com
The start up costs would be about $1000, including a
deposit against affiliate commissions. This pays for
everything you need to be up and running, including a
lot of affiliate support, complete payroll (they are
starting direct deposit payments) and promotion within
the system. they currently have over 65,000 affiliate
sites and are growing at about 500 per day. That's a
lot of exposure for a very reasonable cost.
For a business that can't afford BeFree's requirements,
this makes the most sense to me. Yes, there are other
choices, but I know the people at CJ and have a lot of
respect for the way they work. Unfortunately I can't
say the same for some of their competitors, so I
strongly recommend them for the right merchant.
I hope that helps. Havah, feel free to email me if you
have any additional questions.
Good luck and happy holidays to everyone.
