Automated Multi-Message Autoresponders

Hi,

I have an e-commerce client who is gathering a database
of customers who have purchased product and who have
agreed to receive opt-in emails.

He would like to be able to set up a very automated
autoresponder/opt-in email program, whereby a customer
of a particular product would be emailed with product
information, upsell message, etc. every 6 weeks or so
with a pre-arranged schedule of messages throughout a
12-month period. Because there are many different
products, he would like targeted message campaigns for
each. Most importantly, he'd like the campaign as
automated as possible: once a customer signs up, the
program would automatically send out emails at
pre-designated intervals over the year. In other
words, "low maintenance"!

Are there such programs and/or vendors who can do this?
