I would like to get your take on this I am sure it has happened to you. A client of ours complained the other day that he typed in our domain name, queendom.com and got a pile of junk. It turns out he mistyped the name and put quendom.com (forgot the second "e"). I tried it too and I panicked when browser windows started popping up one after another, with 'exit scripts' opening more and more windows when I tried to close one of them (you have to demostrate a mastery of the mouse to be able to escape). The content was obvious porn sites, gambling sites or just plain pages with nothing but a pile of bannerspromoting reputable business and sold/ served by reputable networks. Headtennis.com does the same thing (the real address of the company is http://www.head.com/). I know that this is widespread and happens in various forms on mp3 sites, porn sites and other sites that represent "the underbelly of society". Apparently, somebody is cashing in on high traffic/ branded domains. I am concerned about this because: 1) Such practice damages our good name 2) It is results in burning banners at a high rate, driving the price of CPM and clicks down, thus affecting the whole industry. 3) Somebody without any effort is making money off my site. Does anybody know what can be done about this? How widespread is it? Do you agree that it affects the industry in general? Ilona Jerabek Queendom.com ???? Quizzes ????????? Puzzles ????
