Subject: Including Press Releases in the Digest
>To further accomodate our new media-members and also so that the rest of
us
>may benefit from their presence, I have an idea for a new section of the
>Online-Ads digest -- a Press Release section.
>
>This section would operate (or look) a lot like our Banner Swap Meet. Of
>course, I will not post entire press releases, but each listing can have
up
>to four lines of text, so that a general "headline" and a URL or other
>information on how to obtain the full text of the press release may be
>given.
I thought the original intention of this list was to discuss advertising
rather than to contain advertisements.
The Banner Swap Meet serves a useful purpose in helping out online
advertisers, but I can't see how a press release section would do this.
Maybe it would be of interest to the media people, but it is off topic.
New
site announcements can already be found elsewhere on the Internet
(including
in press release format).
I can't see how this sort of thing fits in with the original intentions
of
this group at all.
Finally any media people (or others) who would like to be sent press
releases of new web sites should get in touch with me and I'll add you to
our publicity list.

Moderator .02:
You may be right -- it may not be a good idea, but I do want to clarify
one point before any of us pass judgement. This is totally my fault for
not being more specific and detailed in explaining my vision of what
purpose this would serve: I do not want to post new site announcements.
Occasionally, however, a company (ies) may have something to "release" to
the press, with specific regard to an advertising-centered or related
topic. An example would be a new tracking system that a site has
inplemented and is interested in letting the press know about. Things
like that -- that's what I envision being in this space.
Still sound nuts? Or unnecessary? I'm all ears.

Humm. Me thinks it means they'll reject those that are "unsuitable" for
publication, not editing the creative work. Sort of like "we reserve the
right
to refuse service to anyone".
