Subject: Number of Sites that Accepts Ads?
Could anyone point me to a information about the number of sites that
currently accepts ads.
I have looked into both "WebTrack" and "The Traffic Ressource", but they
both only have 300 listings or so.
The number must be substantially higher!

Subject: Marketing problem
The first time I saw the fine table with a crutch for one leg, I thought
that
someone had done a strange repair job. When it was pointed out to me that
the
artisan had designed it like that, I was intrigued.
Jake Cress, a Virginia artist/furniture maker, had apparently gotten
upset
while looking at some art furniture he saw at a gallery show in 1985. He
was
upset not with the quality, but rather at the prices. Knowing that he
could
produce works just as good for much less, he decided to do two things:
(1)
produce high quality works at affordable prices; and (2) create spoofs of
the
works that he saw.
As a result, he has a busy shop producing Philadelphia Chippendale
highboys
and rose desks along side comic pieces. The comic pieces include a table
with one short leg supported by a "book" (carved and painted wood). There
is
also a chair with ball and claw feet - except one of the balls has
"escaped",
and the chair is trying to retrieve it. There is a table with a
"fudgesicle"
(again, carved and painted wood) lying on it. This last one is so
realistic
that Jake's son Mosby was in trouble with his mother Phebe until things
got
straightened about.
Jake is famous. He has been written up in Traditional Home and Washington
Home. His works have appeared in the National Museum of American Art and
in
the collection of R. J. Reynolds. So, what's the problem?
The problem is that Phebe has an idea that they could expand beyond their
Fincastle area if they can advertise on the Internet. I'm helping them
out.
This letter is being posted to the internet marketing and sales mailing
lists
to see if there are any parties interested in marketing or selling Jake's
works. If you have any interest, I can forward to you gif files of some
of
his works (or snail mail photocopies of them). And I can get very
interested
parties in direct contact with Phebe and Jake.
And what am I looking to get out of this? Well, these folks are artisans,
after all, so I don't expect to get rich from representing them to you.
However, if I can get you all to sell enough pieces, I will go to Jake
and
beg for one of his pieces in return. Pam and I *want* one!

The stance I and many others take is very simple:
- UNSOLICITED bulk email is UNWELCOME. It constitutes theft of my
time and money and resources. If I have not EXPLICITLY asked for
certain information or ASKED to be put on a list, bulk email is
unsolicited. That my name was collected at a Web site does not,
per se, constitute agreement to be sent email. Nobody has the right
to "sell my name" on a list and claim that it's OK to send me email...
unless, again, I've agreed to be on this list. It is UNACCEPTABLE
to put me on a list I have not asked to be on which then requires me
to unsubscribe. Period. I and many others consider any such
unsolicited
email as, upon repeat offense after one warning, legitimate reasons to
invoice the sender for a processing fee of anywhere from $100 to
$1000.
- SOLICITED email is welcome. That means I've asked for it. It does
NOT
mean that I've participated in some relevant forum, or appear to be in
a relevant demographic, or whatever.
Spend a few weeks lurking over in news.admin.net-abuse.misc (if you can
tolerate or KILL the current plague of foul language threading through),
and you'll get some sense of the quantity and nature of unsolicited email
us users are already being pestered with.

There is a way to send targeted emails without spamming. Instead of
sending ALL information to EVERYONE that has ever visited your web site,
ask them what they are interested in and only send information to those
who are interested. How? Ask people to register to receive information
in selected categories, categorize your information, and just send to
those who are interested. I believe you'll get better response rates and
more satisfied recipients of the mailings.
Spamming create bad will that no company can afford.
